Smitty's Pancake House | Our Story

Where Friends Have Met Since 1958

Smitty's Pancake House has been Wenatchee's breakfast table for over 60 years — built by families, rebuilt from the ashes, and still serving golden stacks every single morning.

In 1958, Bill and Millie Mendenhall and Cecil and Caroline Clements opened a modest 2,500-square-foot pancake house seating just 90 people. Wenatchee had never had anything quite like it — a place devoted entirely to breakfast, done right.

Gerald and Maxine Freeman bought Smitty's during the buzz of the 1962 World's Fair and poured nearly two decades into it. When their son Stephen and his wife Carol took over in 1980, the tradition stayed exactly where it belonged — in the family.

Arson took the original building to the ground in 1987, and a second fire struck years later — but both times, Smitty's came back stronger. Today's dining room seats 160 guests, a quiet testament to what it means to truly love what you do.

A lot of restaurants serve breakfast as a matter of necessity — Smitty's serves it as a matter of pride. From the German pancakes and buttermilk stacks to the house-made strawberry syrup and lingonberry butter, every plate is made to be remembered.

Regulars who've been coming for decades still find the same warm welcome every time they walk through the door. This is where Wenatchee gathers — and your seat at the table is always ready.
